Millennium Park loosens photo rules....

As I've recently been invited to post here, I'd like to kick it off with this Tribune story some of you may have seen or heard about already.  It's been a heavily debated topic and it looks like we've won this one.  On another note, this Sun-Times article lightly combs over the financial woes of of finishing the Bean, and includes the oh-so-clever line, "the goal is to have the Bean fully baked by the end of summer.".

Yea, I was stopped by a security guard at the Bean. He asked me if I was taking personal pictures. It was at night, and I was using my tripod. He said, I could not use my tripod. I simply ignored him. He tried to get into my shots, then radioed someone saying "We have a guy here using his tripod" What a joke. I just ignored him and took my photos. Then I went to have a beer...ack

the same thing happened to me at Bahai Temple once. A tripod means it's a professional behind the camera after all!

Somethin positive to say... was downtown this past wed and had lunch with a friend of mine in the park on the grass, had some coffee and decided to go check out the side of the bean that's esposed. And so I noticed how the workers were working inside and where they were going through, so in my infinite wisdom, I asked a gentleman if I could possibly go inside for a second and get a shot of the scafolding and all. To my surprise, he said yes, so my last two shots on the roll, are the bean being poslished under the canopy and surrounded by super cool scafolding. And then I simply walked out, said thanks and was not asked a single thing by anyone. Though I noticed an insane amount of cops and yellow-shirted Millenium Park staff parading around big time. Cheers!

I find it funny about the commercial use of a bean picture being an issue. Last years Christmas card from the Mayor himself included sites from the park including the bean and the spitting fountain among the montage.
