Millennium Park loosens photo rules....
As I've recently been invited to post here, I'd like to kick it off with this Tribune story some of you may have seen or heard about already. It's been a heavily debated topic and it looks like we've won this one. On another note, this Sun-Times article lightly combs over the financial woes of of finishing the Bean, and includes the oh-so-clever line, "the goal is to have the Bean fully baked by the end of summer.".

Day in the Life

CPBO identity+webpage
I'm just posting up here a continuation of the discussion at the meetup.
What would you like to see happen with this webpage?
I also will be refering to "Chicago Photobloggers" as the cpbo (chicago.photo-blogger.org)
i also think we need some kind of "logo" to assign us as a "group"
anyone willing to pitch in design time?
i'll work a couple hours on something, but i'm not the best logo designer.

It's Your Choice
At Sunday's meetup, we talked about a meetup at Millennium Park next month. Later it dawned on me that the Custer Street Fair on Sunday, June 19 in Evanston would also be a great location for a meetup/shootout. Plenty of food, arts (including photography), street/people photography possibilities, etc. What do you think? Custer Street Fair or Millennium Park? Cast your vote by replying to this post. Proposed NYC Photo Ban Rejected
I know this has nothing to do with the Windy City but this should bring a cheer to everyone. The Metropolitan Transit Authority of New York has dropped its proposed ban on subway photography. According to the New York Times:
"A proposed ban on taking photographs in the subway, meant to thwart potential terrorists, has been rejected as too broad to be enforceable, the police said yesterday. The measure, proposed in May 2004, would have banned people from photographing, videotaping or filming inside subway cars and stations; the press and businesses or individuals with permits would have been exempt. After public comment and discussions with the New York Civil Liberties Union, the police considered a partial ban on photos of tunnels, control booths and other areas closed to the public, but decided against it, said Christopher Dunn, the associate legal director of the civil liberties group. "From the outset, we have believed that a total ban would unnecessarily infringe on First Amendment rights," he said. The decision was first reported in The Daily News yesterday. Paul J. Browne, a police spokesman, said, "We don't feel the broad ban is necessary, and as a practical matter is unenforceable." People taking photos of areas deemed sensitive will still be questioned, Mr. Browne said."
Great news for the rights of photographers!

Reminder: Photobloggers Meetup This Sunday
Just a reminder about the Chicago Photobloggers meetup at Jinx Cafe in Wicker Park. Hope to see everyone there. We're going to talk about setting up some group exhibits. Bring a umbrella or a slicker. We might be in for some t-storms (though Tom Skillen still can't make up his mind). :)

Pilsen 2nd Fridays
Tonight is the Chicago Art District's 2nd Friday "Opening Night." The Pilsen Photo Group will have their 2nd Friday Gallery Opening tonight, and it usually showcases some of the lesser known, but awesomely creative photographers in the Chicago area. They are located at 1839 S. Halsted and runs from 6PM-11PM tonight.

If you're bored at work today and need something to do other than troll the Craigslist R&R (you know who you are), check out the work of Gaper's Block featured artist, Debbie Carlos. Debbie is the founder and editor of the awesome publication, Revol Magazine. Fantastic photos.

Andre Kertesz at the Stephen Daiter Gallery
Through May 28, Andre Kertesz, a personal favorite of mine and a master and pioneer of 20th century photography is being exhibited at the Stephen Daiter Gallery on 311 W Superior. The exhibit is amazing as I've only seen his work in art books and textbooks; and the prints are all arund the theme of "Observations, Thoughts and Reflections" which I found quite interesting. It's deffinitly worth a trip downtown guys!

Jinx'd! (May Photobloggers Meetup Update)
The bloggers have spoken. By unanimous decision, the next Chicago Photobloggers meetup and shootout will be held Sunday, May 22 at 1 pm at Jinx Cafe, 1928 W. Division, in the Gorilla's 'hood, Wicker Park.
