Studio Lighting Workshop Anyone?

Hi everyone!  I just wanted to check in and see if any of you would be interested in doing some sort of studio lighting experimentation workshop in a future gathering.  I'm all for promoting the photographic medium in any way that I can! I have a halfway-decent amount of lighting gear that i've used to do some simple portraits for family and friends that I would be willing to let you all mess with. The only catch is that we will need to find a wide open space, preferrably with higher ceilings in order to provide flexibilty for the lights and people.  I'll bring the gear anywhere if you can find or volunteer a space to do this.  Here is my list of equipment that I can bring to the workshop:

2x Alien Bees B800 Flash Unit
2X 48" Silver and White Reversible Bounce Umbrella
2x Photoflex MultiDome Q39 Medium Softboxes - 24x32" (60x80cm) with accessory kits
(removable gold and silver panels, fabric grid louver, circle and strip masks)
1x 42" Circular 5-in-1 Reflector Kit
2x Litemod Unit Mainframe (to hold Color Gel Filters)
1x Set of 20 color Gel Filters
1x LG4X Four Channel Wired Remote
1x Nikon AS-15 Sync Terminal Adapter (Hot Shoe-PC)
1x 15-foot PC Sync Cord
1x Sekonic L-358 Flash Meter - Digital Incident, Reflected and Flash Light Meter with Transmitter Module
1x Bogen 3398B - Convertible Boom Stand 420 (Black) with counterweight
2x Bogen 3364 - Light Stand without Casters - Black, 13'
1x Morris MBH-500 Compact Background Support System (includes 2 air cushioned stands, crossbar
supports a paper or cloth background, up to 9' wide by 36' long.)
1x 4-outlet extension cord with built in reeling mechanism
2x King Size Bedhseets - (one black, one white)
3x Seamless Paper Backdrops: (white and charcoal grey at 9' wide, studio gray at 4' wide)

If I could get some feedback from all of you to see if there is any interest, that would be great, hope this brings opportunities for some of you to do something with photography that you havent explored yet.

ok, so, follow me on this one. i was just talking to ferocious Nick about how it would be great if we could set up a strobe on the sidewalk (or under bridge so's to not get affected by the weather) and stop random people to photo. ...including us. ala infrangible http://www.flickr.com/photos/infrangible/sets/46015/ and http://chromogenic.net/ ..except for shooting friends, we shoot strangers; trying to get their reality out of them. like the tin man, if he sat down and directed him we may have some insane stuff. it'd be great if we got equally deranged individuals. just off the top of my head....

Holy crap Archie, can I come over and play? You have the BEST toys.

Note: wherever we set up, we will need an electrical outlet. I don't have one of those nifty battery pack things for the Monolights. If we can steal power, the mission does not have to be aborted :)

That would be amazing. I'd love to try some of that!

sounds like a fine idea. i've never been able to play with such toys. count me in!

before we go on the streets how about we just play with the lighting. i have a recording studio that doubles as a photostudio for me that we could use, but its out here in rockford.

HAH! My first thought was "holy crap Archie, you have all kinds of toys!" And then I thought "we could setup something on the street and get people to sit down for portraits!" We should maybe save that for a later gathering - start a little more simply - but it sounds fantastic. I'd love to play with some of the lighting stuff. I have some very basic lights that I've played with but am curious...

I would love to see this happen. I agree that for right now let's just keep this in a studio or a large space for us to play around with. I say we should concentrate on finding a suitable space for all of this. Anyone have any leads off the top of their head?

Also, we will need to find some portrait subjects (aka lighting guinea pigs) that wont mind seeing stars after getting stobes fired in their face repeatedly :) Time to hit up those friends that owe you favors! haha

This sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately I can't offer any space, but I might be able to track down some models. I was just thinking yesterday that I don't know nearly as much as I'd like about some aspects of photography. How timely.

Well, Rockford isn't the end of the earth, and I've been thinking those city folk need to get out towards the land of corn and soybeans. Seriously Archie, that's alot of stuff!!! Do you travel with roadie?
